ABOUT US

Gorey Rangers were formed on the 7th of March 1962. The club was formed somewhat out of frustration by a group of lads who, although interested in soccer, were more interested in the idea of competitive football of any nature which would provide them with a game every Sunday.

In fact many of those involved in the clubs foundation had in fact assisted Gorey Young Emmets to bring the father Wheeler Trophy (County Minor Football Championship) to Gorey. By May of 1963 just six months after being formed, Rangers playing in a set of Red jerseys, given to them by Raymond Spencer of Ballymoney. ???? played 16 competitive games and were beaten 2-1 in a cup semi-final by Blach Lion, Greystones.

Gorey Rangers next set of Jerseys were claret with blue sleeves and these served the club until 1968/69 season which ended with Rangers winning their only league championship title. It is worth remembering that only after a cup semi-final in 1968, Rangers mentors were warned by a Wicklow league official to improve for the final. After this the club took a long hard look at their strip (awful) and they contested the cup final in the Gorey blues jerseys. Rangers next set of jerseys were presented to them by Billy Doran, the colours of which were red and black which shortly afterword’s were adopted as the clubs official colours
